Emma’s Story:

Emma is the first born of four children. His father left his family many years ago and Ajuna’s mother had been struggling to take care of Emma ever since.  She remarried and with her new husband has three additional children. Unfortunately, this man also chose to leave his family and the mother now struggles to care for four children all on her own without any education and no access to a job. They all lived in the slums of Masese and usually went without food or any basic necessities. Emma’s mother makes necklaces and tries to support her family by selling these, but as only tourists purchase the necklaces, it is a very seasonal source of income.  She has been unable to pay for the school fees for her children and though Emma wants desperately to learn he was constantly being chased from school for lack of school fees. Now that Emma is a part of the Peace for Paul Foundation, he will be taken care of properly year round and will never have to worry about being chased from school again.
